Jayeshbhai Jordaar is a great film for young women or teen girls. This film is about female foeticide/feticide in India. Girls are commonly aborted before birth for many reasons. Here are a few of the most cruel ones:
Dowry
Because of the 'dowry system' in India, we reject girls. Dowry is the money given by the bride's family to the husband's family. Girls are aborted so that families can avoid paying dowry. In other words, if the family has a boy, when it's time for marriage, the family gets money.
Financially a burden
Like I said before, the dowry system takes away money from families with females. But that's not all. Males are able to work and provide money for the family, while girls only do house work. If, by any chance, the girl wants to work for the family, she would need expensive education that men aren't required to have. Plus, girls will eventually be sent away to their husband's family. That leaves her original family with no financial benefit from her.
Norms
The birth of a boy is looked at as a miracle. The birth of our savior, the man who will provide for us until his last breath. In society, girls are bluntly said as worthless and a waste of money.
Synopsis
Jayeshbhai Jordaar is a movie about a dad, Jayesh, (who has a wife and daughter) who realizes that his family's practice of aborting females was inhumane. His wife has been pregnant several times with baby girls who were aborted due to their sex. His wife is again pregnant with a girl but Jayesh wants to have this girl out into the world instead of aborted. He finds that there is a small town where there are only men. Those men posted a youtube video asking women to come to their town, where they will be safe. Jayesh leaves his family and takes his wife and daughter to this small town. It wasn't an easy drive though. His family is trying to chase them down, claiming that they will kill his wife for being 'cursed.' In the end, his family realizes their wrongdoings and Jayesh's baby girl is born!
My rating
Jayeshbhai Jordaar was a movie that left me in tears. Tears for how my sex controlled whether I was worthy to be born. Tears for how lucky I am to be born as a female. And tears for all the girls who were aborted due to this cruel practice. This is the one movie that all girls need to watch when in their teen years as we all must learn how lucky we are. The movie stained a sense of gratitude for where I am now. I give this movie a solid 5 stars!
My opinion on Feticide
Our XX chromosomes do not decide our worth to live. I believe that the reason feticide takes place is because of the selective economy at the time. Males were desired more than girls in the economy. If girls were given a chance to work, they wouldn't be a financial burden to the family. If girls didn't require specific education that was exorbitant, we wouldn't be considered a liability. If our customs didn't force us to give money, we would save another life. One of the deadliest phrases one could say is, "It's a girl." A phrase that's meant to be one of joy turns into one of death. We, as girls, have our lives wiped away. Yet, if born, are obliged to endure the practices that may have killed us. All the pain we take seems worthless if, "It's a girl."
